Eliza was born in 1872 in Atherton.1  Eliza's father was Joseph Mather and her mother was Sarah Ann Owen. She had six brothers and two sisters, named Matthew, John, Joseph, Joseph, Thomas, William, Sarah and Margaret.  She was the fifth oldest of the nine known children.
