Ann was born in February 1778 in Westhoughton and her baptism took place on February 8th, 1778 at St. Bartholomew (Westhoughton).1  Ann's father was Ralph Mather and her mother was Elizabeth (Betty) Glover. She had two brothers and six sisters, named Ralph, John, Betty, Catharine, Ellin, Hannah, Ellin and Mary.  She was the fourth oldest of the nine children.
