Ann was born in 1829.  Ann's father was Thomas Mather and her mother was Jane Cooke. She had four brothers and four sisters, named John, Thomas, Charles, Willmot, Ellen, Elizabeth, Mary and Charlotte.  She was the oldest of the nine children.
