Mary was born in October 1856 in Sharples and her baptism took place on October 26th, 1856 at St. Paul's (Astley Bridge).1 2  Mary's father was James Mason and her mother was Elizabeth Entwistle. She had four half-brothers and two half-sisters, named James, John, William, Joseph, Elizabeth and Mary.  She died at 2 months old in December 1856 in Sharples.1
