Alice's father was Thomas Archer and her mother was Jane Longworth. Her maternal grandparents were Robert Longworth and Catherine Mather. She had four brothers and two sisters, named John, Thomas, Henry, Thomas, Sarah and Jane. She was the third oldest of the seven children.
