Mary was born in 1809 in Elton and his baptism took place on August 26th, 1809 at St. Anne (Turton).1  Mary's father was John Lomax and his mother was Jane Watson.  His paternal grandparents were James Lomax and Mary Taylor. He had two brothers and two sisters, named William, John, Maria and Eliza.  He was the youngest of the five children. He had two half-sisters named Ann and Sarah.
