Maria was born in 1798 in Bolton and her baptism took place on June 13th, 1798 at Ridgway Gates Wesleyan conducted by Chris Hopper.1  Maria's father was John Lomax and her mother was Jane Watson.  Her paternal grandparents were James Lomax and Mary Taylor. She had three brothers and a sister, named William, John, Mary and Eliza.  She was the third oldest of the five children. She had two half-sisters named Ann and Sarah.
