Ruth was born in June 1882 in Bangor-Is-coed. Ruth's father was Samuel Lewis and her mother was Mary Ann Huxley.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Lewis and Mary Mullock. She had three brothers and seven sisters, named Albert, Samuel, Frederick, Frances, Minnie, Georgina, Margaret, Beatrice, Mary and Jessie.  She was the youngest of the eleven children.

‌Ruth and Thomas were married in a religious ceremony in March 1903 in Wrexham.1   They had a son and three daughters, named Thomas, Beatrice, Doris and Olga.  There are possibly more children.
