Edith's father was Peter Jones and her mother was Elizabeth Jellicoe. Her maternal grandparents were Edward Jellicoe and Jane Woodward. She had four brothers and three sisters, named William, James, Charles, Ernest, Mary, Anne and Priscilla. She was the second youngest of the eight known children.
