Ethel's father was Albert Edward Jenkins and her mother was Elizabeth Banks.  Her maternal grandparents were John Banks and Mary Higson. She had four brothers and three sisters, named John, Willie, Albert, Thomas, Bertha, Mary and Elizabeth.  She died at the age of 69 in October 1972 in Salford.²
