Thomas was born in 1836 in Edgworth and his baptism took place on June 4th, 1836 at St. Anne (Turton).1  Thomas' father was John Isherwood and his mother was Dorothy (Dolly) Bently.  His paternal grandparents were Henry Isherwood and Jane Holt. He had two brothers and five sisters, named Peter, Robert, Jane, Ellen, Alice, Andrew and Sarah.  He was the third oldest of the eight children.
