Peter was born in 1841 in Edgworth.1  Peter's father was John Isherwood and his mother was Dorothy (Dolly) Bently.  His paternal grandparents were Henry Isherwood and Jane Holt. He had two brothers and five sisters, named Thomas, Robert, Jane, Ellen, Alice, Andrew and Sarah.  He was the fifth oldest of the eight children.
