Alice was born in 1838 in Edgworth and her baptism took place on September 4th, 1838 at St. Anne (Turton).1 2  Alice's father was John Isherwood and her mother was Dorothy (Dolly) Bently.  Her paternal grandparents were Henry Isherwood and Jane Holt. She had three brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, Peter, Robert, Jane, Ellen, Andrew and Sarah.  She was the fourth oldest of the eight children.
