Henry was born in 1776 in Tottington and his baptism took place there on July 21st, 1776.1  Henry's father was James Isherwood and his mother was Margaret (Peggy) Fairbrother. He had five brothers and six sisters, named William, Peter, Robert, James, Bennett, Mary, Anne, Betty, Alice, Peggy and Deborah.  He was the second oldest of the twelve children.
