Betty was born in 1789 in Edgworth and her baptism took place on February 22nd, 1789 at Turton Chapel.1  Betty's father was James Isherwood and her mother was Margaret (Peggy) Fairbrother. She had six brothers and five sisters, named William, Henry, Peter, Robert, James, Bennett, Mary, Anne, Alice, Peggy and Deborah.  She was the fifth youngest of the twelve children.
