George was born in 1830 in Is-y-Coed and his baptism took place on October 3rd, 1830 in Malpas.¹

Birth Notes

George's father was Richard Hopley and his mother was Elizabeth Shone. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Hopley and Jane Shone. He had four brothers and six sisters, named Thomas, Richard, Samuel, Joseph, Anne, Mary, Elizabeth, Sarah, Jane and Martha. He was the fourth youngest of the eleven children.
