Phyllis' father was William Hodson and her mother was Elizabeth Hannah Chadwick. Her paternal grandparents were William Hodson and Maria Collins. She had a brother and two sisters, named Joseph, Doris and Annie. She was the youngest of the four children. She died at the age of 65 in January 1980 in Bolton.²
