William was born in July 1902 in Birkenhead and his baptism took place on September 17th, 1902 at St. Peter (Rock Ferry).¹²

Birth Notes

William's father was William Heggarty and his mother was Mary Brereton. His maternal grandparents were Edward Brereton and Mary Hooley. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Percy, Sydney, Frank and Hilda. He was the second oldest of the five children.
