  • Rachel Hamer was born in Harwood in October 1877 and baptised in November by her biological parents Jethro and Martha Jane.
    
    For some reason, Jethro & Martha Ann couldnt keep Rachel.  In 1881, Rachel, aged 3, "adopted daughter", was living at Harwood with Margaret Jackson (59) and also Mary and Ann Harmer.
    
    In 1891, Rachel (13) and "adopted" was still with sisters Mary, Ann and Margaret Hamer (36, 30 & 25) at 149 Lee Gate Lane, Harwood.
