Alice was born in 1784 in Entwistle and her baptism took place on December 26th, 1784 at Walmsley Presbyterian conducted by John Taylor.1 2  Alice's father was John Hamer and her mother was Mary (Mally) Bury. She had two brothers and six sisters, named John, Benjamin, Ann, Sally, Rachel, Betty, Nancy and Jenny.  She was the second oldest of the nine children.  She died at the age of 82 in November 1866 in Turton.  She was buried on November 27th, 1866 at St. Anne (Turton).3

‌Alice and John were married in a religious ceremony on January 4th, 1804 at St. Peter's (Bolton).
