Jenny was born in 1793 in Turton and her baptism took place on August 18th, 1793 at St. Anne (Turton).1  Jenny's father was John Hamer and her mother was Mary (Mally) Bury. She had two brothers and six sisters, named John, Benjamin, Ann, Alice, Sally, Rachel, Betty and Nancy.  She was the third youngest of the nine children.
