Sarah was born in March 1845 in Idle.1  Sarah's father was James Grimshaw and her mother was Elizabeth (Betty) Fletcher.  Her paternal grandparents were William Grimshaw and Hannah Hartley. She had six brothers and a sister, named Thomas, James, Benjamin, Abraham, Phoebe, John and Ann.  She was the third youngest of the eight children.
