Ann was born in 1833 in Idle.1  Ann's father was James Grimshaw and her mother was Elizabeth (Betty) Fletcher.  Her paternal grandparents were William Grimshaw and Hannah Hartley. She had six brothers and a sister, named Thomas, James, Benjamin, Abraham, Phoebe, John and Sarah.  She was the oldest of the eight children.
