Mary's father was John Gregory and her mother was Margaret Barker. She had two brothers named James and Samuel.  She was the oldest of the three children. She had three half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Richard, John, Isaac, Elizabeth, Agnes, Nancy and Margaret.  She died at the age of 2 in February 1852 in Bolton.²
