Robinson was born in June 1876 in Bolton.1  Robinson's father was Edward Greenwood and his mother was Sarah Mather.  His maternal grandparents were Robert Mather and Ann Ainsworth. He had three brothers and a sister, named John, Fred, Herbert and Annie.  He was the oldest of the five children.  He died at 6 months old in December 1876 in Bolton.1
