Catherine's father was Thomas Greenhalgh and her mother was Mary Grundy. She had two brothers and five sisters, named James, William, Margaret, Alice, Mary, Catherine and Rebecca.  She was the third oldest of the eight children.  She died at the age of 8 in 1852 in Farnworth.
