Alice was born in September 1848 in Westhoughton and her christening took place on March 4th, 1849 at St. Mary (Deane).1 2  Alice's father was Thomas Greenhalgh and her mother was Mary Grundy. She had two brothers and five sisters, named James, William, Catherine, Margaret, Mary, Catherine and Rebecca.  She was the fourth youngest of the eight children.  She died at the age of 4 in 1852 in Farnworth.3
