Christiana's father was James Fogg and her mother was Maria Mather. Her paternal grandparents were John Fogg and Harriet Rosthorn; her maternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Margaret Isherwood. She had four brothers and four sisters, named John, William, James, Samuel, Ellen, Harriet, Susannah and Elizabeth. She was the third oldest of the nine children.
