John's father was George Eastwood and his mother was Elizabeth Woodhead.  His maternal grandparents were John Woodhead and Hannah Scover. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Joseph, George, Jonas, Rebecca, Priscilla, Mary, Hannah and Martha.  He was the fifth oldest of the nine children. He had a half-brother named James.  He died at the age of 59 in September 1846 in Meltham.  He was buried on September 13th, 1846 in Meltham.²
