Samuel was born on April 13th, 1824 in Broughton (Hawarden) and his baptism took place on May 9th, 1824 in Hawarden.1  Samuel's father was Samuel Davies and his mother was Jane Jones.  His paternal grandparents were Edward Davies and Rachel Millington. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Edward, Thomas, John, George, William, Rachel, Jane and Elizabeth.  He was the fifth oldest of the nine children.
