Edward was born in 1813 in Hawarden and his baptism took place there on January 23rd, 1814.¹

Edward's father was Samuel Davies and his mother was Jane Jones. His paternal grandparents were Edward Davies and Rachel Millington. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, John, Samuel, George, William, Rachel, Jane and Elizabeth. He was the oldest of the nine children.
