Sarah's father was Beaumont Crosland and her mother was Sarah (Sally) Brook.  Her paternal grandparents were Edward Crosland and Mary (Mercy) Beaumont. She had five brothers and a sister, named William, Joe, John, Alfred, Edward and Mary.  She was the third youngest of the seven children.
