Sarah was born on April 19th, 1804 in Berry Brow and her baptism took place on May 20th, 1804 in Almondbury.1 2  Sarah's father was James Crosland and her mother was Sarah Ellam.  Her paternal grandparents were James Crosland and <Unknown>. She had five brothers and four sisters, named Joseph, Abraham, Thomas, Joseph, James, Betty, Mary, Martha and Martha.  She was the youngest of the ten children.
