Betty's father was James Crosland and her mother was Sarah Ellam.  Her paternal grandparents were James Crosland and <Unknown>. She had five brothers and four sisters, named Joseph, Abraham, Thomas, Joseph, James, Mary, Martha, Martha and Sarah.  She was the second oldest of the ten children.
