Martha was born on April 9th, 1801 in Berry Brow and her baptism took place on May 28th, 1798 in Almondbury.1  Martha's father was James Crosland and her mother was Sarah Ellam.  Her paternal grandparents were James Crosland and <Unknown>. She had five brothers and four sisters, named Joseph, Abraham, Thomas, Joseph, James, Betty, Mary, Martha and Sarah.  She was the nineth oldest of the ten children.
