Harriet was born in 1872 in Huddersfield.1  Harriet's father was Alfred Crosland and her mother was Sarah Ann Drake.  Her paternal grandparents were Beaumont Crosland and Sarah (Sally) Brook. She had four brothers and a sister, named John, Norris, Beaumont, Zachariah and Mary.  She was the youngest of the six children.
