Edward was born in June 1845 in Huddersfield.1  Edward's father was Edward Crosland and his mother was Louisa Lunn.  His paternal grandparents were Edward Crosland and Mary (Mercy) Beaumont. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Benjamin, James, Louisa and Arabella.  He was the youngest of the five children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named John and Mary.
