Samuel's father was John Crook and his mother was Margaret Sharples.  His paternal grandparents were Jonathan Crook and Alice Lomax. He had four brothers and a sister, named John, James, Joshua, William and Betty.  He was the second youngest of the six children.  He died at the age of 6 on January 25th, 1753 in Darcy Lever.  He was buried on January 25th, 1753 at St. Peter's (Bolton).²
