Elizabeth's father was Christopher Crook and her mother was Margaret Donovan. Her paternal grandparents were James Crook and Mary Crook. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Cornelius, Christopher, Mary, Martha, Esther and Alice. She was the youngest of the seven children.
