Christopher was born in 1828 in Bolton.1  Christopher's father was Christopher Crook and his mother was Margaret Donovan.  His paternal grandparents were James Crook and Mary Crook. He had a brother and five sisters, named Cornelius, Mary, Martha, Esther, Alice and Elizabeth.  He was the second youngest of the seven children.
