William was born in April 1891 in Northwich and his baptism took place there on April 23rd, 1891.1 2  William's father was William Buckley and his mother was Elizabeth Young.  His paternal grandparents were William Buckley and Esther Stretch; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Young and Mary Gerrard. He had five brothers and two sisters, named Samuel, George, Arthur, Herbert, Albert, Elizabeth and Lucy.  He was the second oldest of the eight children.
