Elizabeth's father was William Buckley and her mother was Elizabeth Young.  Her paternal grandparents were William Buckley and Esther Stretch; her maternal grandparents were Thomas Young and Mary Gerrard. She had six brothers and a sister, named Samuel, William, George, Arthur, Herbert, Albert and Lucy.  She was the fourth youngest of the eight children.
