Sarah was born in 1820 in Oldham.1  Sarah's father was Abner Buckley and her mother was Sarah Needham.  Her paternal grandparents were Benjamin Buckley and Elin (Nelly) Bottomley. She had three brothers and a sister, named Benjamin, Josiah, John and Betty.  She was the oldest of the five children.
