Betty was born in 1830 in Oldham.1   Betty's father was Abner Buckley and her mother was Sarah Needham.  Her paternal grandparents were Benjamin Buckley and Elin (Nelly) Bottomley. She had three brothers and a sister, named Benjamin, Josiah, John and Sarah.  She was the second oldest of the five children.
