Ben's father was Henry Buckley and his mother was Betty Shaw.  His paternal grandparents were Edmund Buckley and Mary Lawton. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Joseph, Benjamin, James, Henry, Mary, Alice, Ann and Priscilla.  He was the youngest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 7 on March 18th, 1821 in Friarmere.²
