Alice's father was Henry Buckley and her mother was Betty Shaw.  Her paternal grandparents were Edmund Buckley and Mary Lawton. She had five brothers and three sisters, named Joseph, Benjamin, James, Henry, Ben, Mary, Ann and Priscilla.  She was the fourth youngest of the nine children.
