Jane was born about August 1890 in Ludlow and her christening took place there on June 28th, 1890.¹²

Jane's father was Thomas Brown and her mother was Mary Ann Postans. Her paternal grandparents were William Brown and Mary; her maternal grandparents were William Clement and Ann (Anne) Postans. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, John, Mathew, Arthur, Mary, Nell and Elizabeth. She had an adopted sister named Evelyn.
