Sidney's father was John Joseph Brockbank and his mother was Hanna Robina Lea. His paternal grandparents were John Brockbank and Mary Ann Kenna. He had two sisters named Olive and Florence. He was the second oldest of the three children. He died at the age of 90 in December 2003 in Birkenhead.²
