Thomas was born in January 1773 in Wybunbury and his baptism took place there on January 7th, 1773.1  Thomas' father was Samuel Brereton Jnr and his mother was Mary Green.  His paternal grandparents were Samuel Brereton Snr and Mary Whittingham. He had four brothers and five sisters, named John, George, James, Samuel, Hannah, Mary, Jane, Anne and Elizabeth.  He was the fifth youngest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 79 in September 1852 in Newcastle-under-Lyme.2
