Thomas' father was William Brereton and his mother was Elizabeth Whittingham.  His paternal grandparents were John Brereton and Ellen Latham. He had three brothers and seven sisters, named William, Henry, Richard, Mary, Martha, Jane, Harriet, Elizabeth, Ellen and Fanny.  He was the fourth oldest of the eleven children.  He died at the age of 15 in November 1849 in Audlem.  He was buried on November 4th, 1849 in Audlem.²
